Progress Rail Integrated Career Site Launches: Bringing Together Two Brands Into One Employment Brand

 As part of the Rail Division of Caterpillar Inc., Progress Rail Services and Electro-Motive Diesel are setting the pace in modern rail technology. But to bring their two brands together under one employment brand, they turned to IBM Employment Branding to create one unified career site that would connect with candidates and convey their shared spirit. Beginning in 1982, Progress Rail grew rapidly to become one of the largest suppliers of railroad and transit system products in North America. Electro-Motive Diesel, which began in 1922 and came aboard as part of Progress Rail in 2010, has led the way in locomotive technology for decades.

 The history: Progress Rail began working with IBM in 2014 when it selected the IBM® Kenexa® Talent Suite to streamline its talent acquisition and onboarding processes. The organization leveraged IBM® Kenexa® BrassRing on Cloud and the IBM onboarding solution, but wanted a more robust career site to increase the visibility of both the Progress Rail and Electro-Motive Diesel brands.

The need: Progress Rail recognized that to help build its employer presence, it needed to bring together both the brands under one cohesive career site in a way that made sense for prospective candidates. So the Employment Branding team helped formulate an all-new site that would feature both the Progress Rail and Electro-Motive Diesel names, explain the relationship of both brands and allow candidates to understand what makes working there unique.

 The solution: Working closely with Progress Rail, the Employment Branding team developed an all-new integrated career site that helped establish the employer’s presence to potential candidates and created consistent branding for the IBM Talent Suite and BrassRing solutions. Launching in July 2015, the unified career site offers information about the shared vision of both brands, career areas, pay and benefits and the overall hiring process. As one of the primary tools Progress Rail has to communicate with candidates and explain how the two brands make up one common spirit, the new career site helps establish and extend the employment brand as a tool to attract, connect with and retain top talent.
